Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वासवस्य भवेद्दूतो दूतो वैश्रवणस्य वा ।
प्रेषितो वा ऽपि रामेण सीतान्वेषणकाङ्क्षया ।
।
॥५-४२-१५॥
Vāsavasya bhaveddūto dūto vaiśravaṇasya vā |
Preṣito vā 'pi rāmeṇa sītānveṣaṇakāṅkṣayā ॥5-42-15॥
Translation
"He could be a messenger of Vasava (Indra), or a messenger of Vaishravana (Kubera), or perhaps sent by Rama with the desire to search for Sita."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राक्षसियों ने अनुमान लगाया) "वह (वानर) या तो इंद्र (वासव) का दूत हो सकता है, या कुबेर (वैश्रवण) का, अथवा सीता की खोज की इच्छा से राम द्वारा भेजा गया कोई दूत भी हो सकता है।"
English Commentary
The Rakshasis engage in speculation about the intruder's origin. By listing Vasava (Indra) and Vaishravana (Kubera), the guardians of the directions, they acknowledge that the intruder possesses power usually reserved for the divine. The inclusion of Rama as a possibility indicates their awareness of the geopolitical threat. They correctly deduce that such a supernatural feat implies a mission of high importance—specifically, sītānveṣaṇakāṅkṣayā (with the desire/intent to search for Sita).

राक्षसियों का यह अनुमान हनुमान जी के प्रभाव को दर्शाता है। वे समझ गई हैं कि यह कोई साधारण वानर नहीं है। 'वासव' (इंद्र) और 'वैश्रवण' (कुबेर) का नाम लेना यह सिद्ध करता है कि वे हनुमान जी के बल को देवताओं के समान मान रही हैं। अंत में 'राम' का नाम लेना उनकी आशंका को पुष्ट करता है कि शत्रु का आगमन हो चुका है। यह श्लोक यह भी स्पष्ट करता है कि लंका में राम के संभावित आक्रमण का भय पहले से व्याप्त था।
