तस्य क्रुद्धस्य नेत्राभ्यां प्रापतन्नास्रबिन्दवः ।
दीप्ताभ्यामिव दीपाभ्यां सार्चिषः स्नेहबिन्दवः ।

Tasya kruddhasya netrābhyāṃ prāpatannāsrabindavaḥ |
Dīptābhyāmiva dīpābhyāṃ sārciṣaḥ snehabindavaḥ ॥5-42-23॥
Translation
From the eyes of that enraged (Ravana), drops of tears fell like drops of hot oil falling from burning lamps along with the flame.

उस क्रुद्ध रावण के नेत्रों से आँसू (पानी की बूँदें) इस प्रकार गिरने लगे, जैसे जलते हुए दीपकों से बत्ती के साथ तेल की गरम बूँदें टपकती हैं।
English Commentary
Valmiki uses a striking simile here. The tears (āsrabindavaḥ) falling from Ravana's eyes are not tears of sorrow, but physical manifestations of intense internal heat produced by rage. Comparing them to snehabindavaḥ (oil drops) falling from burning lamps suggests they are scalding hot. It emphasizes that Ravana is burning from the inside out. The image portrays a terrifying vitality; he is not weeping; he is overflowing with destructive energy.

यह एक अत्यंत सशक्त और मौलिक उपमा है। रावण के आँखों से गिरने वाला जल शोक का नहीं, बल्कि तीव्र क्रोध का है। कवि ने इसकी तुलना 'दीप्ताभ्यां दीपाभ्यां' (जलते हुए दीपकों) से टपकते हुए 'स्नेहबिन्दवः' (तेल की बूँदों) से की है। जैसे तेल गर्म होकर टपकता है और जलाता है, वैसे ही रावण के क्रोध के आँसू तप्त हैं। यह उपमा रावण की आँखों की लालिमा और उससे निकलने वाली ऊष्मा (Heat/Intensity) को बहुत सुंदरता से व्यक्त करती है।
