को ऽयं कस्य कुतो वा ऽयं किंनिमित्तमिहागतः ।
कथं त्वया सहानेन संवादः कृत इत्युत ।

Ko 'yaṃ kasya kuto vā 'yaṃ kiṃnimittamihāgataḥ |
Kathaṃ tvayā sahānena saṃvādaḥ kṛta ityuta ॥5-42-6॥
Translation
"Who is this? Whose (servant) is he? From where does he come? For what purpose has he come here? And furthermore, how did you enter into conversation with him?"

"यह कौन है? किसका (दूत) है? कहाँ से आया है? और किस कारण से यहाँ आया है? तथा इसने तुम्हारे साथ किस प्रकार और क्या बातचीत की है?"
English Commentary
The barrage of interrogatives (Who? Whose? Whence? Why?) reflects the guards' panic and need for intelligence. Specifically, questioning the saṃvādaḥ (dialogue) between Sita and the monkey is crucial. They realized that a communication channel had been established right under their noses. This verse sets up the tension: the guards know something transpired, and they demand full disclosure of the interaction to assess the threat level to Ravana (and to themselves for failing in their duty).
