आचक्ष्व नो विशालाक्षि मा भूत्ते सुभगे भयम् ।
संवादमसितापाङ्गे त्वया किं कृतवानयम् ।

॥५-४२-७॥
Ācakṣva no viśālākṣi mā bhūtte subhage bhayam |
Saṃvādamasitāpāṅge tvayā kiṃ kṛtavānayam ॥5-42-7॥
Translation
"Tell us, O large-eyed one! O fortunate one, let there be no fear for you. O one with dark outer eye-corners, what conversation did he have with you?"

"हे विशाल नेत्रों वाली! हमें बताओ। हे सुभगे! तुम्हें कोई भय नहीं होना चाहिए। हे काले नेत्रों के कोरों वाली सीते! इस वानर ने तुम्हारे साथ क्या बातचीत की है?"
English Commentary
The tone of the Rakshasis shifts dramatically from aggression to ingratiation. They use flattering epithets like viśālākṣi (large-eyed) and subhage (fortunate one) to coax Sita into speaking. The assurance "let there be no fear for you" is ironic, given they are her jailers. This shift reveals their desperation; they need Sita's testimony to understand the nature of the threat standing before them. They are trying to extract intelligence by feigning false sympathy.

यहाँ राक्षसियों की कूटनीति और 'चाटुकारिता' दिखाई देती है। अभी तक जो राक्षसियाँ सीता को डरा रही थीं, वे अब संकट आने पर उन्हें 'विशालाक्षि' (सुंदर नेत्रों वाली) और 'सुभगे' (भाग्यशाली) कह रही हैं। वे सीता को विश्वास में लेना चाहती हैं ("मा भूत्ते भयम्" - डरो मत) ताकि वे सच उगल दें। उनका उद्देश्य केवल जानकारी निकालना है। वे जानती हैं कि रावण के क्रोध से बचने के लिए उन्हें विस्तृत रिपोर्ट देनी होगी।
