रथेन खरयुक्तेन तमागतमुदीक्ष्य सः ।
हनुमान् वेगसम्पन्नौ जहर्ष च ननाद च ।

Rathena kharayuktena tamāgatamudīkṣya saḥ . Hanumān vegasampanno jaharṣa ca nanāda ca .. ॥5-44-5॥
Translation
Seeing him arrive in a chariot yoked with donkeys, the swift Hanuman rejoiced and roared.
हिंदी अनुवाद
गधों से जुते हुए रथ द्वारा उसे आया हुआ देखकर, महावेगी हनुमान जी हर्षित हुए और उन्होंने (भी) गर्जना की।
English Commentary
Hanuman's reaction defines his character as a warrior par excellence. Upon seeing Jambumali arrive in a donkey-drawn chariot (kharayuktena rathena), Hanuman feels joy (jaharṣa) rather than fear. This indicates his confidence and his eagerness to engage in a worthy battle after easily dispatching lesser foes. His answering roar (nanāda) counters Jambumali's bow-twang, completing the ritual challenge before combat. The epithet vegasampanno (endowed with speed) reminds us of Hanuman's primary advantage—his agility—against the heavy, chariot-bound power of the Rakshasa.

यहाँ हनुमान जी की प्रतिक्रिया अत्यंत रोचक है। शत्रु को देखकर भयभीत होने के स्थान पर वे 'जहर्ष' (हर्षित) होते हैं। यह एक सच्चे वीर का लक्षण है जिसे युद्ध में आनंद मिलता है। जम्बुमाली का रथ 'खरयुक्तेन' (गधों से युक्त) है, जो राक्षसों के रथों के लिए एक सामान्य वर्णन है, जो उनकी तामसिक प्रकृति का द्योतक हो सकता है। हनुमान जी का 'ननाद' (गर्जना) जम्बुमाली की धनुष-टंकार का उत्तर है। 'वेगसम्पन्नौ' विशेषण हनुमान जी की तत्परता को दिखाता है। दोनों ओर से ध्वन्यात्मक चुनौती (Acoustic challenge) दी जा चुकी है और अब प्रत्यक्ष युद्ध आसन्न है।
