ततस्तेष्ववसन्नेषु भूमौ निपतितेषु च ।
तत्सैन्यमगमत्सर्वं दिशो भयार्दितम् ।
।

Tatasteṣvavasanneṣu bhūmau nipatiteṣu ca । Tatsainyamagamatsarvaṃ diśo bhayārditam । । ॥5-45-14॥
Translation
Then, when those (commanders/warriors) were killed and had fallen to the ground, the entire remaining army, struck with terror, fled in all directions.

तदनन्तर, उन प्रमुख वीरों के मारे जाने और भूमि पर गिर जाने पर, शेष सारी सेना भय से पीड़ित होकर दसों दिशाओं में भाग खड़ी हुई।
English Commentary
This verse describes the tactical collapse of the unit sent against Hanuman. In ancient warfare, the morale of the infantry was entirely dependent on the survival and visibility of their leaders. With the Ministors' sons (Mantri-putras) dead ('fallen to the ground'), the command structure disintegrated. The phrase bhayārditam (tormented by fear) captures the panic. The scattering in 'all directions' signifies a total rout; they are not retreating strategically but fleeing for their lives. This moment marks the conclusion of this specific skirmish, validating Hanuman's prowess not just as a duelist against leaders, but as a force capable of breaking entire army formations.

यह श्लोक मंत्री-पुत्रों के नेतृत्व वाली सेना के पूर्ण पराभव का चित्रण करता है। जब सेनानायक और मुख्य योद्धा धराशायी हो जाते हैं, तो साधारण सैनिकों में भगदड़ मचना स्वाभाविक है। 'भयार्दितम्' शब्द का अर्थ है भय से पीड़ित या आर्त। जिस सेना ने अभी तक हनुमान को घेर रखा था, अब वह दिशाहीन होकर भाग रही है। यह दृश्य लंका की अभेद्य सुरक्षा व्यवस्था में पड़ी दरार को स्पष्ट करता है। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ मनोवैज्ञानिक प्रभाव दिखा रहे हैं—जो राक्षस अभी तक अहंकार में थे, अब वे प्राण रक्षा हेतु भाग रहे हैं। यह हनुमान जी की विजय का उद्घोष है, जहाँ उन्होंने अकेले ही एक विशाल वाहिनी को छिन्न-भिन्न कर दिया।
