महाबलपरीवारा धनुष्मन्तो महाबलाः ।
कृतास्त्रास्त्रविदां श्रेष्ठाः परस्परजयैषिणः ।
।
॥५-४५-२॥
Mahābalaparīvārā dhanuṣmanto mahābalāḥ . Kṛtāstrāstravidāṃ śreṣṭhāḥ parasparajayaiṣiṇaḥ .. ॥5-45-2॥
Translation
Surrounded by a mighty army, carrying bows, possessing great strength, trained in weaponry, best among those who know Astras, they were eager to outdo each other in victory.

वे विशाल सेना से घिरे हुए थे, स्वयं भी महाबली थे, धनुष धारण किए हुए थे, अस्त्र-विद्या में निपुण थे, अस्त्रवेत्ताओं में श्रेष्ठ थे और परस्पर एक-दूसरे को जीतने की इच्छा रखते थे।
English Commentary
The poet highlights the elite status and psychological makeup of these warriors. They are kṛtāstrā (skilled in weapons) and experts in divine missiles (astravidāṃ), distinguishing them from common foot soldiers. A crucial psychological detail is parasparajayaiṣiṇaḥ (desiring victory over one another). They are driven by competitive glory, each vying to claim the kill. While this ensures high motivation and aggression, it also hints at a lack of cohesive teamwork, as individual glory takes precedence over strategic cooperation.
