स विरूपाक्षयूपाक्षौ दुर्धरं चैव राक्षसम् ।
प्रघसं भारकर्णं च पञ्च सेनाग्रनायकान् ।

Sa virūpākṣayūpākṣau durdharaṃ caiva rākṣasam । Praghasaṃ bhārakarṇaṃ ca pañca senāgranāyakān । । ॥5-46-2॥
Translation
He (ordered) the five generals of the army: Virupaksha, Yupaksha, the demon Durdhara, Praghasa, and Bhasakarna.

उसने (रावण ने) विरूपाक्ष, यूपाक्ष, दुर्धर नामक राक्षस तथा प्रघस और भासकर्ण—इन पाँच सेनानायकों को (बुलाया/आदेश दिया)।
English Commentary
Here, the text lists the specific elite cadre Ravana selects for the mission. These are not mere foot soldiers but Senagranayakas—generals who lead the vanguard. The names themselves evoke terror and martial prowess: Virupaksha (Divergent/Fierce-eyed), Yupaksha, Durdhara (Unrestrainable), Praghasa (Devourer), and Bhasakarna. By deploying five generals simultaneously, Ravana acknowledges that a single duel is risky against Hanuman. This represents an escalation in tactical deployment. He is moving from sending individual champions (like his son Aksha) to deploying a coordinated command unit, hoping that combined leadership and strength will succeed where individual valor failed.

रावण अब अपने सबसे विश्वसनीय और शक्तिशाली सेनानायकों को नियुक्त कर रहा है। ये साधारण योद्धा नहीं, अपितु 'सेनाग्रनायकान्' (सेना के अग्रभाग के नेता/जनरल) हैं। इन पाँचों के नाम—विरूपाक्ष (विकृत आँखों वाला), यूपाक्ष, दुर्धर (जिसे पकड़ना कठिन हो), प्रघस (भक्षक) और भासकर्ण—इनके भयानक रूप और स्वभाव के सूचक हैं। रावण का इन पाँचों को एक साथ भेजना यह दर्शाता है कि वह अब कोई जोखिम नहीं लेना चाहता। पहले उसने अकेले-अकेले वीरों को भेजा था (जैसे जम्बुमाली या अक्षकुमार), किन्तु अब वह सामूहिक शक्ति का प्रयोग करना चाहता है ताकि हनुमान को घेरा जा सके।
