यत्तैश्च खलु भाव्यं स्यात्तमासाद्य वनालयम् ।
कर्म चापि समाधेयं देशकालविरोधिनम् ।
।
॥५-४६-५॥
Yattaiśca khalu bhāvyaṃ syāttamāsādya vanālayam । Karma cāpi samādheyaṃ deśakālavirodhinam । । ॥5-46-5॥
Translation
"Having approached that forest-dweller, you must indeed be diligent/careful. And action should be taken that is not contrary to time and place (appropriate to the situation)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"उस वनवासी (वानर) के पास पहुँचकर तुम्हें अत्यंत सावधान रहना चाहिए। देश और काल के अनुसार जो उचित हो (विरुद्ध न हो), वैसा ही कार्य करना।"
English Commentary
Ravana adds a cautionary addendum to his orders, displaying his expertise in Arthashastra (statecraft/warfare). He warns them to be yattaih (diligent/guarded) when engaging the 'forest dweller.' The crucial instruction is to act in a way that is desha-kala-avirodhinam—not opposed to time and place. This means they must adapt their tactics to the environment (the architecture of the Torana where Hanuman is perched) and the moment. It is a directive for tactical flexibility rather than rigid adherence to formation fighting. Ravana effectively admits that standard operating procedures might fail, and the generals must improvise based on the immediate reality of the combat.

यह श्लोक रावण की कूटनीतिक समझ का प्रमाण है। वह अपने सेनापतियों को चेतावनी दे रहा है—'यत्तैः भाव्यं' (सावधान रहना/प्रयत्नशील रहना)। वह जानता है कि हनुमान कोई साधारण शत्रु नहीं हैं। 'देशकालविरोधिनम्' (देश और काल के अविरुद्ध) एक महत्वपूर्ण रणनीतिक उपदेश है। इसका अर्थ है कि केवल अंधाधुंध आक्रमण मत करना, बल्कि स्थिति (स्थान) और समय (मौके) को देखकर निर्णय लेना। यदि छल की आवश्यकता हो तो छल करना, यदि बल की तो बल। रावण स्वीकार कर रहा है कि यह वानर युद्ध के सामान्य नियमों से नहीं हारा जा सकता, इसलिए 'समाधेयं' (चित्त को एकाग्र करके/सोच समझकर) कार्य करना होगा।
