Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तं परित्यज्य महारथो रथं सकार्मुकः खड्गधरः खमुत्पतन् ।
तपोभियोगादृषिरुग्रवीर्यवान् विहाय देहं मरुतामिवालयम् ॥ ॥५-४७-३३॥
Sa taṃ parityajya mahāratho rathaṃ sakārmukaḥ khaḍgadharaḥ khamutpatan । Tapobhiyogādṛṣirugravīryavān vihāya dehaṃ marutāmivālayam । । ॥5-47-33॥
Translation
Abandoning that chariot, the great warrior flew into the sky holding his bow and sword, just as a sage of fierce power leaves his body through the practice of austerities to ascend to the abode of the Maruts (heavens).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह महारथी (अक्ष) उस रथ को त्यागकर, धनुष और तलवार धारण किए हुए आकाश में उसी प्रकार उड़ गया, जैसे कोई उग्र तपस्या वाला ऋषि अपने शरीर को त्यागकर (योग बल से) स्वर्गलोक को जाता है।
English Commentary
Valmiki employs a striking simile here, comparing the demon Aksha to a 'Rishi' (sage). Just as a sage discards the mortal body to ascend to heaven through the power of yoga, Aksha discards the broken chariot to ascend into the sky. This comparison elevates Aksha's character; it implies a rigorous discipline and detachment appropriate for a high-ranking warrior. He does not panic amidst destruction but transitions fluidly to the next phase of combat.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक अद्भुत और विरोधाभासी उपमा (Simile) का प्रयोग करते हैं। एक राक्षस की तुलना 'ऋषि' से की गई है। जैसे ऋषि जीर्ण शरीर त्याग कर स्वर्ग जाते हैं, वैसे ही अक्ष टूटा हुआ रथ त्याग कर आकाश में गया। यह उपमा अक्षकुमार के युद्ध-कौशल, निर्भयता और मोह-त्याग (detachment) को दर्शाती है। वह रथ टूटने पर विलाप नहीं करता, बल्कि तुरंत युद्ध के लिए तत्पर हो जाता है। यह उसके योद्धा-धर्म की उच्चता है।
