Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न वीर सेना गणशोच्यवन्ति न वज्रमादाय विशालसारम् ।
न मारुतस्यास्य गतेः प्रमाणं न चाग्निकल्पः करणेन हन्तुम् ।

५.४८.१२।। ॥५-४८-१२॥
na vīra senā gaṇaśocyavanti na vajramādāya viśālasāram |
na mārutasyāsya gateḥ pramāṇaṃ na cāgnikalpaḥ karaṇena hantum ॥5-48-12॥
Translation
O Hero! He cannot be killed by multitudes of armies, nor by taking up the Vajra of great might. There is no measure to his speed, which is like the wind; resembling fire, he cannot be killed by ordinary means.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वीर! यह वानर न तो सेनाओं के समूहों से मारा जा सकता है, और न ही विशाल शक्ति वाले वज्र से। इसकी गति वायु के समान है जिसका कोई माप नहीं है, और यह अग्नि के समान है, जिसे सामान्य साधनों से नहीं मारा जा सकता।
English Commentary
Ravana provides a crucial intelligence briefing: Hanuman is immune to conventional warfare. Massive armies ('sena') and even weapons as powerful as the 'Vajra' (thunderbolt) are ineffective against him. Ravana describes Hanuman using elemental analogies—he has the immeasurable speed of Wind ('Maruta') and the destructive nature of Fire ('Agni'). Just as one cannot easily strike wind or kill fire with physical objects, Hanuman cannot be destroyed by ordinary means ('karanena'). This foreshadows the necessity of the Brahmastra. Ravana is explicitly telling Indrajit: "Do not waste time with arrows and swords; this enemy requires supernatural countermeasures."

यह अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है जहाँ रावण हनुमान की वास्तविकता का विश्लेषण कर रहा है। उसने देखा कि विशाल सेनाएँ और वज्र जैसे हथियार (जो संभवतः अक्षय कुमार या जम्बुमाली ने प्रयोग किए होंगे) विफल रहे हैं। हनुमान 'मारुत' (वायु) और 'अग्नि' के समान हैं—अत: भौतिक शस्त्रों से उनका वध असंभव है। रावण इंद्रजीत को चेतावनी दे रहा है कि पारंपरिक युद्ध पद्धतियाँ यहाँ काम नहीं करेंगी। यह परोक्ष रूप से इंद्रजीत को 'दिव्यास्त्रों' (Divine weapons) का प्रयोग करने का संकेत है, क्योंकि भौतिक वस्तुएँ अग्नि या वायु को नष्ट नहीं कर सकतीं।
