स पक्षिराजोपमतुल्यवेगैर्व्यालैश्चतुर्भिः सिततीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रैः ।
रथं समायुक्तमसङ्गवेगं समारुरोहेन्द्रजिदिन्द्रकल्पः ।

sa pakṣirājopamatulyavegairvyālaiścaturbhiḥ sitatīkṣṇadaṃṣṭraiḥ |
rathaṃ samāyuktamashaṅgavegaṃ samārurohendrajidindrakalpaḥ ॥5-48-19॥
Translation
Indrajit, who was equal to Indra, ascended a chariot yoked with four fierce beasts (tigers) having sharp white teeth, possessing speed equal to that of the King of Birds (Garuda), and whose velocity was unchecked.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इन्द्र के समान पराक्रमी इंद्रजीत उस रथ पर सवार हुआ जिसमें गरुड़ (पक्षिराज) के समान वेग वाले, और सफ़ेद तथा तीखे दांतों वाले चार हिंसक पशु (व्याल/बाघ) जुते हुए थे। उस रथ का वेग कहीं भी रुकने वाला नहीं था।
English Commentary
The iconography of Indrajit is established here. His chariot is drawn not by horses, but by four 'vyalas'—fierce beasts, traditionally interpreted as tigers or lions, emphasizing his wild, predatory nature. Their sharp white teeth ('sita-tikshna-danshtra') add to the terror. Comparing their speed to Garuda ('Pakshiraja') implies supernatural velocity. Indrajit himself is called 'Indrakalpa' (comparable to Indra), reinforcing his status as a warrior of cosmic caliber. The chariot is described as having 'asangavegam' (unchecked speed), suggesting that physically, nothing on the battlefield can impede his approach.

इंद्रजीत के रथ का वर्णन भयानक और अद्भुत है। इसमें घोड़े नहीं, बल्कि 'व्याल' (प्रायः बाघ या सिंह माने जाते हैं) जुते हैं, जिनके दांत तीखे और सफ़ेद हैं। यह उसके उग्र स्वभाव के अनुकूल है। इन पशुओं की गति की तुलना 'पक्षिराज' (गरुड़) से की गई है, जो भगवान विष्णु का वाहन है और अपनी तीव्र गति के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। 'इन्द्रकल्पः' (इन्द्र के समान) विशेषण फिर से यह याद दिलाता है कि यह योद्धा स्वयं इन्द्र को हरा चुका है। 'असङ्गवेगं' (जिसकी गति बाधित न हो) यह बताता है कि उसका रथ किसी भी बाधा को पार कर सकता है, जो युद्ध में अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
