त्वमस्त्रविच्छस्त्रविदां वरिष्ठः सुरासुराणामपि शोकदाता ।
सुरेषु सेन्द्रेषु च दृष्टकर्मा पितामहाराधनऽञ्चितास्त्रः ।

tvamastravicchastravidāṃ variṣṭhaḥ surāsurāṇāmapi śokadātā |
sureṣu sendreṣu ca dṛṣṭakarmā pitāmahārādhana'ñcitāstraḥ ॥5-48-2॥
Translation
You are a knower of Astras (celestial missiles) and the foremost among those who know the use of weapons. You are the cause of grief even for the Suras (gods) and Asuras (demons). Your feats have been witnessed amongst the gods led by Indra, and you have acquired celestial weapons by propitiating Lord Brahma (the Grandfather).

तुम अस्त्र-विद्या के ज्ञाता हो और शस्त्रधारियों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ हो। तुम देवताओं और असुरों को भी शोक देने वाले हो। इन्द्र सहित समस्त देवताओं के विरुद्ध तुम्हारे कर्म (पराक्रम) देखे जा चुके हैं और तुमने पितामह ब्रह्मा की आराधना करके दिव्यास्त्र प्राप्त किए हैं।
English Commentary
Ravana is bolstering the morale of his son, Indrajit (Meghanada), before sending him to confront Hanuman. After the devastation of the Ashoka Vatika and the death of Prince Aksha, Ravana turns to his most capable warrior. He addresses Indrajit as the best among weapon-wielders. The reference to 'Pitamaha' (Lord Brahma) is crucial, reminding Indrajit of the invincible boons and celestial weapons (including the Brahmastra) he acquired through severe penance. Ravana emphasizes that Indrajit is not an ordinary warrior; he has defeated Indra himself in the past. By recalling these past glories, Ravana implies that capturing a single Vanara should be well within his capabilities, despite the losses Lanka has just suffered.

लंकापति रावण यहाँ अपने पुत्र इंद्रजीत (मेघनाद) के मनोबल को बढ़ा रहा है। हनुमान द्वारा अशोक वाटिका के विध्वंस और अक्षय कुमार के वध के बाद, रावण अब अपने सबसे शक्तिशाली योद्धा को भेज रहा है। रावण उसे 'शस्त्रविदां वरिष्ठः' (शस्त्रधारियों में श्रेष्ठ) कहकर संबोधित करता है। यहाँ 'पितामहाराधन' का उल्लेख अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है, जो यह याद दिलाता है कि इंद्रजीत ने कठोर तपस्या द्वारा ब्रह्मा जी से ब्रह्मास्त्र और अन्य अजेय वरदान प्राप्त किए थे। रावण उसे यह स्मरण करा रहा है कि उसका पराक्रम सामान्य नहीं है; उसने स्वयं देवराज इन्द्र को भी परास्त किया है, इसलिए एक वानर (हनुमान) उसके लिए बड़ी चुनौती नहीं होना चाहिए। यह एक पिता और राजा द्वारा अपने सेनापति में आत्मविश्वास भरने का प्रयास है।
