सुमहच्चापमादाय शितशल्यांश्च सायकान् ।
हनुमन्तमभिप्रेत्य जगाम रणपण्डितः ।

sumahaccāpamādāya śitaśalyāṃśca sāyakān |
hanumantamabhipretya jagāma raṇapaṇḍitaḥ ॥5-48-22॥
Translation
Taking up a very great bow and arrows with sharp tips, that scholar of war (Indrajit) advanced, aiming at Hanuman.

एक विशाल धनुष और तीखी नोक वाले बाणों को लेकर, वह रण-पंडित (युद्ध में विद्वान/कुशल इंद्रजीत) हनुमान को लक्ष्य करके आगे बढ़ा।
English Commentary
The epithet 'Ranapanditah' (scholar/expert of war) is used for Indrajit here, emphasizing his intellectual mastery over warfare. He doesn't just fight; he understands the science of battle. He arms himself with a massive bow and sharp arrows ('shitashalyan'), signalling the start of long-range combat. His movement is focused solely on Hanuman ('Hanumantam abhipretya'), ignoring everything else. This highlights his discipline and concentration as he closes the distance to engage the enemy.

इंद्रजीत को यहाँ 'रणपंडितः' (युद्ध का विद्वान) कहा गया है। यह शब्द बहुत विशेष है। यह बताता है कि इंद्रजीत केवल बलवान नहीं है, बल्कि वह युद्धकला का 'प्रोफेसर' या विशेषज्ञ है। वह जानता है कि किस स्थिति में कौन सा हथियार चलाना है। वह 'सुमहत् चापम्' (विशाल धनुष) उठाता है, जो उसकी शारीरिक शक्ति का प्रमाण है। उसका ध्यान पूरी तरह हनुमान पर केंद्रित ('अभिप्रेत्य') है। दोनों योद्धा अब आमने-सामने हैं।
