आयान्तं सरथं दृष्ट्वा तूर्णमिन्द्रजितं कपिः ।
विननाद महानादं व्यवर्धत च वेगवान् ।

āyāntaṃ sarathaṃ dṛṣṭvā tūrṇamindrajitaṃ kapiḥ |
vinanāda mahānādaṃ vyavardhata ca vegavān ॥5-48-25॥
Translation
Seeing Indrajit coming quickly with his chariot, the Monkey (Hanuman) roared a great roar and, possessing great speed, grew (expanded his body) further.

इंद्रजीत को रथ सहित तेजी से आते देखकर, उस वानर (हनुमान) ने महान गर्जना की और वह वेगशाली वीर अपने आकार में और भी बढ़ गया।
English Commentary
The confrontation begins. Upon spotting Indrajit's rapid approach, Hanuman responds with a 'mahanadam' (great roar), a warrior's challenge intended to intimidate the enemy. Furthermore, he expands his physical size ('vyavardhata'). In the Ramayana, changing size is a key combat ability of the Vanaras, allowing them to match the scale of Rakshasa magic or to create havoc. By growing larger, Hanuman prepares to catch missiles or crush the chariot. The verse perfectly sets the stage for the clash: the swift, chariot-riding sorcerer versus the colossal, roaring celestial monkey.

यह सर्ग 48 का अंतिम (या उसके समीप का) श्लोक है जो युद्ध के आरंभ का संकेत है। हनुमान शत्रु को देखकर रक्षात्मक नहीं होते, बल्कि आक्रामक हो जाते हैं। 'विननाद महानादं' (महान नाद किया)—यह उनकी चुनौती है। 'व्यवर्धत' (आकार बढ़ाया) दर्शाता है कि हनुमान ने अपना विराट रूप धारण करना शुरू कर दिया है ताकि वे इंद्रजीत के रथ और अस्त्रों का सामना कर सकें। यह एक मनोवैज्ञानिक युद्ध भी है—विशालता दिखाकर शत्रु के मन में भय उत्पन्न करना। अब मंच सज चुका है और महायुद्ध आरंभ होने वाला है।
