इन्द्रजittut रथं दिव्यमास्थितश्चित्रकार्मुकः ।
धनुर्विस्फारयामास तडिदूर्जितनिःस्वनम् ।

indrajittu rathaṃ divyamāsthitaścitrakārmukaḥ |
dhanurvisphārayāmāsa taḍidūrjitaniḥsvanam ॥5-48-26॥
Translation
Indrajit, holding a wonderful bow and seated on his divine chariot, twanged his bowstring, producing a fierce sound resembling the crash of lightning.

अद्भुत धनुष धारण किए हुए इंद्रजीत ने दिव्य रथ पर बैठकर अपने धनुष की प्रत्यंचा को खींचा (टंकार की), जिससे बिजली के कड़कने जैसी भयंकर ध्वनि उत्पन्न हुई।
English Commentary
The battle commences with a sonic boom. Indrajit, mounted on a celestial chariot, creates a sound shockwave by twanging his bowstring. The comparison to 'tadit' (lightning) suggests not just volume but a terrifying, sharp crack that reverberates through the atmosphere. This serves two purposes: it signals the start of lethal intent and acts as psychological warfare to intimidate the opponent. The epithet 'chitrakarmuka' implies his bow is unique, likely a divine gift, capable of withstanding the immense tension required for his celestial missiles.

युद्ध का आरंभ ध्वनि-प्रदूषण (sound shock) से होता है। इंद्रजीत 'चित्रकार्मुकः' (विचित्र या अद्भुत धनुष वाला) है। उसके धनुष की टंकार सामान्य नहीं है, बल्कि 'तडिदूर्जितनिःस्वनम्' (बिजली के समान भयंकर) है। यह ध्वनि शत्रु के मनोबल को तोड़ने के लिए पर्याप्त होती है। रावण ने उसे 'अस्त्रविद्' (अस्त्रों का ज्ञाता) कहा था, और यहाँ वह अपने कौशल का प्रदर्शन कर रहा है। दिव्य रथ पर आरूढ़ होना उसे ऊंचाई और सुरक्षा दोनों प्रदान करता है। यह दृश्य महाभारत के महारथियों की याद दिलाता है जहाँ धनुष की टंकार ही युद्धघोष होती थी।
