Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अवध्यो ऽयमिति ज्ञात्वा तमस्त्रेणास्त्रतत्त्ववित् ।
निजग्राह महाबाहुर्मारुतात्मजमिन्द्रजित् ।
।
॥५-४८-३८॥
avadhyo 'yamiti jñātvā tamastreṇāstratattvavit |
nijagrāha mahābāhurmārutātmajamindrajit ॥5-48-38॥
Translation
Knowing that "This one cannot be killed," the mighty-armed Indrajit, who knew the essence of celestial weapons, captured the son of the Wind God using that [Brahma] weapon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अस्त्रों के तत्त्व को जानने वाले महाबाहु इन्द्रजित् ने यह जानकर कि 'यह (हनुमान) अवध्य है', वायुपुत्र को उस (ब्रह्मास्त्र) से बाँध लिया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Indrajit's martial expertise and discernment. He realized that Hanuman could not be killed by ordinary weapons or physical blows. The epithet 'astratattvavit' (knower of the essence of weapons) is significant; it implies he knew exactly which celestial weapon to deploy for a specific outcome. Instead of persisting with lethal force, he chose to capture Hanuman using the Brahmastra, acknowledging the monkey's boon of immortality against standard attacks.

यहाँ इन्द्रजित् की युद्ध-कुशलता और विवेक का परिचय मिलता है। उसने अनुभव किया कि हनुमान जी को सामान्य शस्त्रों या भौतिक प्रहारों से मारना असंभव है। 'अस्त्रतत्त्ववित्' शब्द महत्त्वपूर्ण है; इसका अर्थ है कि वह जानता था कि किस परिस्थिति में किस दैवीय अस्त्र का प्रयोग करना उचित है। उसने हनुमान जी का वध करने के बजाय उन्हें ब्रह्मास्त्र से बंदी बनाने का निर्णय लिया, क्योंकि उसे ज्ञात हो गया था कि इस वानर के पास अवध्यता का वरदान है।
