Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
को ऽयं कस्य कुतो वा ऽत्र किं कार्यं को व्यपाश्रयः ।
इति राक्षसवीराणां तत्र संजज्ञिरे कथाः ।
॥५-४८-५६॥
ko 'yaṃ kasya kuto vā 'tra kiṃ kāryaṃ ko vyapāśrayaḥ । iti rākṣasavīrāṇāṃ tatra saṃjajñire kathāḥ । ॥5-48-56॥
Translation
"Who is this? Whose (servant/son) is he? Where has he come from? What is his purpose here? Who is his ally?"—Such conversations arose among the Rakshasa heroes present there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यह कौन है? किसका (दूत/पुत्र) है? यहाँ कहाँ से आया है? इसका क्या काम है? और इसका आश्रय (सहायक) कौन है?"—वहाँ उपस्थित राक्षस वीरों के बीच इस प्रकार की चर्चाएं होने लगीं।
English Commentary
This verse captures the confusion and curiosity permeating Ravana's court. Lanka was considered impregnable, so the fact that a single monkey could infiltrate and cause such devastation was beyond the Rakshasas' comprehension. They were unwilling to believe this was the work of a lone agent, hence the questions "Whose is he?" and "Who is his ally?" They suspected the involvement of higher powers like Indra or Kubera behind this intruder.

यह श्लोक रावण की सभा में व्याप्त कौतूहल और भ्रम को दर्शाता है। लंका अभेद्य मानी जाती थी, इसलिए एक वानर का वहां घुसकर इतना विध्वंस करना राक्षसों की समझ से परे था। वे यह मानने को तैयार नहीं थे कि यह अकेले वानर का काम हो सकता है, इसलिए वे 'कस्य' (किसका भेजा हुआ) और 'व्यपाश्रयः' (किसके बल पर) जैसे प्रश्न पूछ रहे थे। उन्हें आशंका थी कि इसके पीछे इंद्र या कुबेर का हाथ हो सकता है।
