Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स ददर्श महातेजा रावणः कपिसत्तमम् ।
रक्षोभिर्विकृताकारैः कृष्यमाणमितस्ततः ।
॥५-४८-५९॥
sa dadarśa mahātejā rāvaṇaḥ kapisattamam । rakṣobhirvikṛtākāraiḥ kṛṣyamāṇamitastataḥ । ॥5-48-59॥
Translation
The mighty and resplendent Ravana saw the best of monkeys being dragged hither and thither by Rakshasas of hideous forms.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस महातेजस्वी रावण ने वानरश्रेष्ठ (हनुमान) को देखा, जिसे विकृत आकार वाले राक्षस इधर-उधर खींच रहे थे।
English Commentary
There is a striking contrast presented here. On one side is the "greatly resplendent" Ravana on his throne, and on the other is the "best of monkeys" being humiliated. The description of the Rakshasas as having "hideous forms" (vikṛtākāra) juxtaposes with Hanuman's noble heroism. This is the moment Ravana lays eyes for the first time on the monkey who had single-handedly shaken the foundations of his city.

यहाँ एक विरोधाभास (contrast) है। एक ओर 'महातेजा' रावण है जो सिंहासन पर विराजमान है, और दूसरी ओर 'कपिसत्तम' हनुमान हैं जो अपमानित किए जा रहे हैं। 'विकृताकारैः' शब्द राक्षसों की कुरूपता को दृश्याता है जो हनुमान जी की सौम्य वीरता के विपरीत है। रावण की दृष्टि पहली बार उस वानर पर पड़ी जिसने उसकी पूरी नगरी को हिला दिया था।
