यथाक्रमं तैः स कपिर्विपृष्टः कार्यार्थमर्थस्य च मूलमादौ ।
निवेदयामास हरीश्वरस्य दूतः सकाशादहमागतो ऽस्मि ।

yathākramaṃ taiḥ sa kapirvipṛṣṭaḥ kāryārthamarthasya ca mūlamādau । nivedayāmāsa harīśvarasya dūtaḥ sakāśādahamāgato 'smi । । ॥5-48-62॥
Translation
Being questioning by them in due order regarding his purpose and the root cause of his actions, that monkey (Hanuman) stated at the very outset: "I have come from the presence of the Lord of Monkeys (Sugriva) as a messenger (Duta)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन मंत्रियों द्वारा विधिवत (क्रम से) कार्य के प्रयोजन और मूल कारण के विषय में पूछे जाने पर, उस वानर (हनुमान) ने आरम्भ में ही निवेदन किया—"मैं वानरराज (सुग्रीव) के पास से 'दूत' के रूप में आया हूँ।"
English Commentary
Here, Hanuman displays his diplomatic acumen. As soon as the interrogation begins, he establishes his status as a 'Duta' (messenger/envoy). In ancient statecraft, an envoy enjoys diplomatic immunity and cannot be killed. By declaring this immediately, he creates a moral shield for his safety. Notably, he mentions coming from 'Harishvara' (the Lord of Monkeys, Sugriva) rather than Rama initially, adhering to the protocol where an envoy represents a sovereign king to another sovereign. He clarifies his official capacity before delving into the details of his mission.

हनुमान जी यहाँ अपनी बुद्धिमत्ता का परिचय देते हैं। मंत्रियों के प्रश्न करते ही उन्होंने सबसे पहले अपना परिचय 'दूत' के रूप में दिया। राजनीति शास्त्र में दूत अवध्य होता है। यह कहकर उन्होंने अपनी सुरक्षा का एक नैतिक कवच तैयार कर लिया। उन्होंने अभी राम का नाम नहीं लिया, बल्कि 'हरीश्वर' (वानरराज सुग्रीव) का नाम लिया, क्योंकि राजनीतिक प्रोटोकॉल के अनुसार एक राजा का दूत दूसरे राजा से बात करता है। उन्होंने 'मूल कारण' (सीता की खोज) बताने से पहले अपनी आधिकारिक स्थिति स्पष्ट की।
