Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तैः संपीड्यमानो ऽपि रक्षोभिर्भीमविक्रमैः ।
विस्मयं परमं गत्वा रक्षोधिपमवैक्षत ।
।
॥५-४९-१५॥
Sa taiḥ saṃpīḍyamāno 'pi rakṣobhirbhīmavikramaiḥ । Vismayaṃ paramaṃ gatvā rakṣodhipamavaikṣata । । ॥5-49-15॥
Translation
Even though he was being harassed and pressed by those terrible, mighty demons, Hanuman, filled with great amazement, looked at the King of Rakshasas.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन भयानक पराक्रम वाले राक्षसों द्वारा पीड़ित (खींचे और घसीटे) जाने पर भी, हनुमान जी ने परम विस्मय को प्राप्त होकर राक्षसराज रावण को देखा।
English Commentary
This verse underscores Hanuman's extraordinary mental fortitude and detachment. Despite being bound, dragged, and physically harassed ('Saṃpīḍyamāno') by the guards, he ignores his own suffering. Instead, his focus is entirely captured by Ravana's persona, leading him to 'Paramaṃ Vismayaṃ' (great amazement). A lesser being would be consumed by fear or pain, but Hanuman, a true yogi and warrior, objectively appreciates the magnificence of the opponent. It highlights his ability to separate the physical situation from his intellectual observation, acknowledging the grandeur of the enemy king.

यह श्लोक हनुमान जी की मानसिक स्थिरता (धैर्य) और सौंदर्य-बोध को दर्शाता है। उन्हें रस्सियों से बांधकर घसीटा जा रहा है और राक्षस उन्हें पीड़ा दे रहे हैं, फिर भी उनका ध्यान अपनी पीड़ा पर नहीं, बल्कि रावण के अद्भुत व्यक्तित्व पर है। 'विस्मयं परमं गत्वा' (परम आश्चर्य को प्राप्त होकर) दिखाता है कि एक योद्धा के रूप में हनुमान जी रावण के प्रभाव को देखकर दंग रह गए। यह स्थिति 'रिपु में भी गुण दर्शन' (शत्रु में भी गुण देखना) का उदाहरण है। हनुमान जी शारीरिक कष्ट से ऊपर उठ चुके हैं और एक साक्षी भाव से रावण का निरीक्षण कर रहे हैं।
