अयं ह्युत्सहते क्रुद्धः कर्तुमेकार्णवं जगत् ।
इति चिन्तां बहुविधामकरोन्मतिमान् हरिः ।
दृष्ट्वा राक्षसराजस्य प्रभावममितौजसः ।

Ayaṃ hyutsahate kruddhaḥ kartumekārṇavaṃ jagat । Iti cintāṃ bahuvidhāmakaronmatimān hariḥ । Dṛṣṭvā rākṣasarājasya prabhāvamamitaujasaḥ । । ॥5-49-20॥
Translation
"If enraged, he is indeed capable of turning the entire world into a single ocean (causing a deluge)." Observing the power of the Demon King of immeasurable energy, the intelligent Hari (Hanuman) thought in various ways.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"क्रोधित होने पर यह (रावण) समस्त जगत को एकार्णव (प्रलय के जल में मग्न) करने में समर्थ है।" उस अमित तेजस्वी राक्षसराज के प्रभाव को देखकर बुद्धिमान वानर (हनुमान) ने इस प्रकार अनेक तरह से विचार किया।
English Commentary
Hanuman assesses the catastrophic potential of his adversary. 'Ekārṇavam' refers to the cosmic deluge where the distinctions of the world are lost in a single ocean. Hanuman realizes Ravana possesses the power to bring about such destruction if provoked. The epithet 'Matimān' (intelligent) is applied to Hanuman because accurate threat assessment is the mark of a wise strategist. He recognizes that the upcoming war will not be against a trivial foe, but against a being of 'Amitaujas' (immeasurable energy). This concludes Sarga 49, setting the stage for the direct interaction.

हनुमान जी रावण की विनाशकारी क्षमता का आकलन कर रहे हैं। 'एकार्णव' का अर्थ है प्रलयकाल की वह स्थिति जब सब कुछ जलमग्न हो जाता है। रावण इतना शक्तिशाली है कि वह सृष्टि का विनाश कर सकता है। हनुमान जी को 'मतिमान्' (बुद्धिमान) कहा गया है क्योंकि वे शत्रु को कम आंकने की गलती नहीं कर रहे। वे जानते हैं कि राम जी का युद्ध किसी साधारण राक्षस से नहीं, बल्कि प्रकृति की शक्तियों को चुनौती देने वाले महायोद्धा से होने वाला है। यहाँ सर्ग 49 समाप्त होता है।
