Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बुद्धिप्रधानान् रुचिराभिधानान् ।
सम्श्रद्दधानान् जगतः प्रधानान् ।
नानाविधानान् रुचिराभिधानान् ।
ददर्श तस्याम् पुरि यातुधानान् ॥५-५-१५॥
buddhi pradhānān rucirābhidhānān । saṃśraddadhānān jagataḥ pradhānān । nānā vidhānān rucirābhidhānān । dadarśa tasyām puri yātudhānān ॥5-5-15॥
Translation
In that city (Lanka), Hanumān saw the Yātudhānas (Rākṣasas) who were foremost in intellect, had charming names, were faithful (to Ravana), chiefs of the world (in power), of various types, and had beautiful titles.

उस नगरी (लंका) में हनुमान ने उन यातुधानों (राक्षसों) को देखा जो बुद्धि में श्रेष्ठ, सुन्दर नामों वाले, श्रद्धा रखने वाले (रावण में), संसार में प्रधान (शक्तिशाली), और अनेक प्रकार के (रूपों वाले) थे।
English Commentary
This verse describes the intellectual and social strength of the Rākṣasas. They are not merely brute fighters but are noted as being buddhi pradhānān (foremost in intellect) and jagataḥ pradhānān (chiefs of the world). This points to the cunning and global reach of Ravana's kingdom. Saṃśraddadhānān (faithful) highlights their unwavering loyalty to Ravana and the state. Rucirābhidhānān (charming names/titles) suggests their social prestige and military ranks. Hanumān realizes that his enemy is not a crude barbarian but a force composed of organized, intelligent, and loyal warriors, making his reconnaissance much more challenging.

यह श्लोक राक्षसों की मानसिक और सामाजिक शक्ति को दर्शाता है। उन्हें केवल बलवान नहीं, बल्कि बुद्धिप्रधानान् (बुद्धि में श्रेष्ठ) और जगताः प्रधान (संसार में प्रमुख) कहा गया है। यह रावण के राज्य की चतुराई और वैश्विक पहुँच को इंगित करता है। 'सम्श्रद्दधानान्' (श्रद्धा रखने वाले) से उनका रावण के प्रति अटूट विश्वास और राज्य के प्रति निष्ठा स्पष्ट होती है। 'रुचिराभिधानान्' (सुन्दर नाम/पदवी वाले) से उनकी सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा और सैन्य पदवियों का पता चलता है। हनुमान जी इस बात से अवगत होते हैं कि उनका शत्रु केवल जंगली नहीं, बल्कि संगठित, बुद्धिमान और वफादार योद्धाओं से युक्त है, जो उनकी खोज को और अधिक चुनौतीपूर्ण बनाता है।
