लोकस्य पापानि विनाशयन्तम् ।
महोदधिं चापि समेधयन्तम् ।
भूतानि सर्वाणि विराजयन्तम् ।
ददर्श शीताम्शुमथाभियान्तम् ॥५-५-२॥
lokasya pāpāni vināśayantam । mahodadhiṃ cāpi samedhayantam । bhūtāni sarvāṇi virājayantam । dadarśa śītāṃśum atha abhiyāntam ॥5-5-2॥
Translation
Hanuman saw the Cool-rayed One (Moon) rising up, who was destroying the sins (darkness/sufferings) of the world, causing the great ocean to swell (tides), and illuminating all living beings.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो संसार के पापों (संताप/अंधकार) को नष्ट कर रहा था, महासागर को बढ़ा रहा था (ज्वार ला रहा था), और सभी प्राणियों को प्रकाशित (शोभित) कर रहा था, उस शीत-किरण वाले (चंद्रमा) को (हनुमान ने) ऊपर आते हुए देखा।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the divine and natural effects of the Moon. It is described as lokasya pāpāni vināśayantam—destroying the world's sins. Here, 'sins' implies darkness, fear, and the heat/suffering of the day, which the moon soothes with its coolness. The verse notes the gravitational connection with the ocean, stating it causes the great ocean to swell (samedhayantam). As the Śītāṃśu (Cool-rayed one), it illuminates all beings. For Hanumān, the rising moon acts as an ally, dispelling the darkness of Lanka and aiding his search, serving as a beacon of hope and clarity in the enemy territory.
