Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि ते वानरं तेजो रूपमात्रं तु वानरम् ।
।
॥५-५०-१०॥
Na hi te vānaraṃ tejo rūpamātraṃ tu vānaram । । ॥5-50-10॥
Translation
"...for your energy is not that of a monkey; only your form is simian."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"...क्योंकि तुम्हारा तेज वानर जैसा नहीं है, (तुम्हारा) केवल रूप ही वानर का है।"
English Commentary
This is a direct acknowledgement of Hanuman's supernatural capability. Prahasta frankly states that while Hanuman looks like a monkey ('Rūpamātraṃ'), his 'Tejas' (radiance/energy/power) transcends that species. The devastation Hanuman caused was too systematic and overwhelming for a mere animal. This underscores the theme that physical appearance is deceptive; the Rakshasas, experts in Maya (illusion), suspect they are being tricked by a similar illusion. They cannot conceive that a simple Vanara could naturally possess such immense power without being a disguised god.

यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण पंक्ति है। प्रहस्त स्वीकार करता है कि हनुमान जी का 'तेज' (शक्ति, प्रभाव, और आभामंडल) किसी साधारण पशु या वानर का नहीं हो सकता। उन्होंने जिस तरह अकेले पूरी सेना का संहार किया, वह अलौकिक था। यह कथन हनुमान जी की महिमा को स्थापित करता है। शत्रु भी उनकी शक्ति को देखकर भ्रमित हैं। 'रूपमात्रं तु वानरम्'—अर्थात वे मानते हैं कि यह वानर शरीर केवल एक आवरण है, जिसके भीतर कोई महाशक्ति छिपी हुई है।
