Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जातिरेव मम त्वेषा वानरो ऽहमिहागतः ।
दर्शने राक्षसेन्द्रस्य दुर्लभे तदिदं मया ।
॥५-५०-१४॥
Jātireva mama tveṣā vānaro 'hamihāgataḥ । Darśane rākṣasendrasya durlabhe tadidaṃ mayā । ॥5-50-14॥
Translation
"This is indeed my true caste; I have come here as a Vanara. Since an audience with the King of Rakshasas is difficult to obtain, I did this (caused destruction)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यह (वानर होना) मेरी जाति ही है, मैं वानर रूप में ही यहाँ आया हूँ। राक्षसराज (रावण) का दर्शन दुर्लभ था, इसीलिए मेरे द्वारा यह (वन-भंग आदि) किया गया।"
English Commentary
Hanuman proudly owns his identity: "I am a Vanara." He refutes the idea that he is a disguised god, asserting his natural form ('Jātireva'). He then brilliantly justifies his violent actions as a necessary diplomatic maneuver. He argues that accessing a high-profile target like Ravana ('Rākṣasendrasya darśane') is impossible through standard channels ('Durlabhe'). Therefore, he orchestrated the chaos as a strategy to force an audience. This frames his destructive acts not as mindless aggression, but as a calculated means to a diplomatic end—meeting the king.

हनुमान जी गर्व के साथ अपनी पहचान 'वानर' बताते हैं। वे प्रहस्त के इस संदेह को खारिज करते हैं कि वे कोई मायावी देवता हैं। वे कहते हैं, "मैं वही हूँ जो दिख रहा हूँ।" फिर वे अपनी रणनीति का खुलासा करते हैं। वे स्वीकार करते हैं कि उन्होंने उपद्रव इसलिए किया क्योंकि रावण जैसे शक्तिशाली और सुरक्षित राजा तक पहुँचना और उसका 'दर्शन' करना सामान्य तरीके से असंभव था। यह 'साम' नीति के विफल होने पर ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए किया गया 'भेद' और 'दण्ड' का प्रयोग था।
