Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पितामहादेव वरो ममाप्येषो ऽभ्युपागतः ।
राजानं द्रष्टुकामेन मयास्त्रमनुवर्तितम् ।

Pitāmahādeva varo mamāpyeṣo 'bhyupāgataḥ । Rājānaṃ draṣṭukāmena mayāstramanuvartitam । । ॥5-50-17॥
Translation
"I have received this boon from the Grandfather (Brahma) himself. However, desiring to see the King (Ravana), I obeyed (submitted to) the weapon."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मुझे पितामह (ब्रह्मा जी) से यह वर प्राप्त है (कि अस्त्र मुझे नहीं बांधेगा)। किन्तु राजा (रावण) को देखने की इच्छा से मैंने उस अस्त्र की मर्यादा का पालन किया (स्वयं को बंधने दिया)।"
English Commentary
Hanuman elucidates the reason for his capture. He possesses a boon from Lord Brahma ('Pitamaha') that renders him immune to the prolonged effects of such weapons. Yet, he chose to 'follow' or respect the weapon ('Astramanuvartitam') for two reasons: spiritual protocol (respect for Brahma) and strategic intent ('Rājānaṃ draṣṭukāmena'). He realized that being captured was the fastest ticket to a face-to-face audience with Ravana. This reveals that Hanuman was in control of the situation throughout, turning a seeming defeat into a tactical victory.
हिंदी टीका
हनुमान जी बताते हैं कि ब्रह्मा जी के वरदान के कारण उन पर ब्रह्मास्त्र का प्रभाव क्षणिक होता है। 'अस्त्रमनुवर्तितम्' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने अस्त्र का मान रखा। यदि वे चाहते तो उसे तोड़ सकते थे, लेकिन इससे ब्रह्मा जी का अपमान होता। दूसरा कारण था 'राजानं द्रष्टुकामेन'—वे रावण से मिलना चाहते थे। हनुमान जी ने युद्ध को एक माध्यम (tool) के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया ताकि वे शत्रु के दरबार में आधिकारिक रूप से प्रवेश कर सकें। यह उनकी कूटनीतिक दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाता है।
