न हि धर्मविरुद्धेषु बह्वपायेषु कर्मसु ।
मूलघातिषु सज्जन्ते बुद्धिमन्तो भवद्विधाः ।

na hi dharmaviruddheṣu bahvapāyeṣu karmasu । mūlaghātiṣu sajjante buddhimanto bhavadvidhāḥ । । 5.51.18।। ॥5-51-18॥
Translation
Indeed, wise men like you do not get attached to actions that are contrary to Dharma, fraught with many dangers, and which destroy the very root (of one's existence).

आपके जैसे बुद्धिमान लोग धर्म के विरुद्ध, बहुत से खतरों से भरे हुए और मूल (जड़/वंश) का नाश करने वाले कर्मों में आसक्त नहीं होते।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a stern warning wrapped in philosophical advice. Hanuman categorize the abduction of Sita as an action that is mūlaghātiṣu—destroying the root. This is a powerful metaphor indicating total annihilation of lineage, kingdom, and accumulated merit. He warns that such actions are bahvapāyeṣu (full of dangers). By reiterating "wise men like you" (bhavadvidhāḥ), Hanuman isolates Ravana's current action as an anomaly to his wisdom, urging him to detach (na sajjante) from this course before the "root" is severed. It characterizes the retention of Sita not as a victory, but as a strategic blunder with fatal consequences.

हनुमान अब रावण को उसके कर्मों के परिणामों (Consequences) के प्रति सचेत कर रहे हैं। वे सीता-हरण को तीन विशेषण देते हैं: 1. 'धर्मविरुद्ध' (अधार्मिक), 2. 'बह्वपाय' (जिसमें बहुत से खतरे/अनर्थ छिपे हों), और 3. 'मूलघाति' (जो जड़ से विनाश कर दे)। 'मूलघाति' शब्द सबसे भयानक चेतावनी है—इसका अर्थ है कुल, राज्य और प्राणों का समूल नाश। हनुमान समझा रहे हैं कि क्षणिक सुख या अहंकार के लिए 'बुद्धिमान' व्यक्ति ऐसा आत्मघाती कदम नहीं उठाते। यह एक तार्किक अपील है कि रावण अपनी बुद्धिमत्ता का प्रयोग करे और विनाश से बचे।
