कामं खल्वहमप्येकः सवाजिरथकुञ्जराम् ।
लङ्कां नाशयितुं शक्तस्तस्यैष तु न निश्चयः ।

kāmaṃ khalvahamapyekaḥ savājirathakuñjarām । laṅkāṃ nāśayituṃ śaktastasyaiṣa tu na niścayaḥ । । 5.51.31।। ॥5-51-31॥
Translation
Indeed, I am capable of destroying Lanka along with its horses, chariots, and elephants all by myself; however, that is not his (Rama's) resolve.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यद्यपि मैं अकेला ही घोड़ों, रथों और हाथियों सहित इस लंका को नष्ट करने में समर्थ हूँ, (मैं ऐसा कर सकता हूँ) किन्तु यह उस (राम) का निश्चय (संकल्प) नहीं है।
English Commentary
Hanuman creates a terrifying juxtaposition of capability and restraint. He asserts he could unilaterally wipe out Lanka's military assets (vājirathakuñjarām) right now. This is not an idle boast, as he will soon demonstrate by burning Lanka. However, he refrains not out of weakness, but out of protocol. Na niścayaḥ (not the resolve/plan) indicates that Rama has reserved the right of vengeance for himself. This statement serves to belittle Ravana further—he is alive only because Hanuman is following orders, not because Ravana is safe.
हिंदी टीका
हनुमान अपनी शक्ति का अंतिम उद्घोष करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि लंका को ध्वस्त करने के लिए पूरी सेना की भी जरूरत नहीं, मैं 'एकः' (अकेला) ही काफी हूँ। लेकिन वे ऐसा करेंगे नहीं। क्यों? क्योंकि 'तस्यैष तु न निश्चयः'—यह राम की आज्ञा या संकल्प नहीं है। राम का संकल्प है कि वे स्वयं आकर अपनी पत्नी के अपहरणकर्ता को दंड देंगे। हनुमान यहाँ अपनी शक्ति भी दिखा रहे हैं और अपने स्वामी (राम) के प्रति अपनी अनुशासित भक्ति (Discipline) भी। वे रावण को बता रहे हैं कि "मैं तुम्हें अभी मार सकता हूँ, पर तुम राम के शिकार हो।"
