सत्यं राक्षसराजेन्द्र शृणुष्व वचनं मम ।
रामदासस्य दृतस्य वानरस्य विशेषतः ।
।
॥५-५१-३८॥
Satyaṃ rākṣasarājendra śṛṇuṣva vacanaṃ mama । Rāmadāsasya dūtasya vānarasya viśeṣataḥ । । ॥5-51-38॥
Translation
O King of Rakshasas! Listen to my truthful words, as I am the servant of Rama, his messenger, and specifically, a Vanara.

हे राक्षसराजेन्द्र! मैं राम का दास हूँ, उनका दूत हूँ और विशेष रूप से एक वानर हूँ—मेरे इस सत्य वचन को सुनिये।
English Commentary
Hanumat identifies himself in three capacities: Ramadasa (servant of Rama), Duta (messenger), and Vanara (monkey). As a 'Ramadasa', he symbolizes devotion and loyalty. As a 'Duta', he is bound to speak the 'truth' (a messenger's duty is to convey reality, however bitter). By calling himself a 'Vanara', he implies that monkeys are devoid of deceit; they speak plainly of what they see and perceive. The address 'Rakshasarajendra' carries respect, showing that Hanumat does not abandon etiquette even in enemy territory.

हनुमान अपनी पहचान तीन रूपों में देते हैं: रामदास, दूत और वानर। 'रामदास' के रूप में वे भक्ति और निष्ठा का प्रतीक हैं। 'दूत' के रूप में वे 'सत्य' बोलने के लिए बाध्य हैं (दूत का धर्म सत्य कहना है, चाहे वह कड़वा हो)। 'वानर' कहकर वे यह संकेत दे रहे हैं कि वानरों में छल-कपट नहीं होता, वे जो देखते और अनुभव करते हैं, वही सीधा कहते हैं। 'राक्षसराजेन्द्र' सम्बोधन में सम्मान है, जो दर्शाता है कि शत्रु के क्षेत्र में भी हनुमान शिष्टाचार नहीं त्यागते।
