तस्मान्नास्य वडे यत्नः कार्यः परपुरञ्जय ।
भवान् सेन्द्रेषु देवेषु यत्नमास्तातुमर्हति ।

tasmānnāsya vade yatnaḥ kāryaḥ parapurañjaya |
bhavān sendreṣu deveṣu yatnamāstātumarhati ॥5-52-21॥
Translation
"Therefore, O Conqueror of enemy cities, no effort should be made to kill him. You should direct your effort towards the gods led by Indra."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"इसलिए, हे शत्रुओं के नगरों को जीतने वाले (परपुरञ्जय)! इसके वध का प्रयत्न नहीं करना चाहिए। आपको तो इन्द्र सहित देवताओं पर (विजय पाने का) प्रयत्न करना चाहिए (अर्थात् अपनी शक्ति बड़े शत्रुओं के लिए बचानी चाहिए)।"
English Commentary
Vibhishana concludes his argument. Addressing Ravana as 'parapurañjaya' (conqueror of foreign cities), he urges him not to waste his 'yatnaḥ' (effort/energy) on a mere execution. Instead, Ravana should reserve his might for worthy adversaries like the gods led by Indra (or by extension, Rama). This appeals to Ravana's warrior pride—fighting a bound monkey is beneath him; fighting the gods or the princes of Ayodhya is a challenge worthy of his stature. It diverts the violence away from the immediate victim.

विभीषण निष्कर्ष निकालते हैं। वे रावण को 'परपुरञ्जय' (शत्रु नगरों को जीतने वाला) कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि एक छोटे वानर को मारना उसकी प्रतिष्ठा के अनुरूप नहीं है। उसे अपनी शक्ति का प्रदर्शन 'सेन्द्रेषु देवेषु' (इन्द्र सहित देवताओं) या राम-लक्ष्मण जैसे बड़े योद्धाओं पर करना चाहिए। वानर को मारना ऊर्जा की बर्बादी है। 'यत्नः' (प्रयास) सही जगह लगना चाहिए। यह रावण को युद्ध के लिए प्रेरित करने जैसा लगता है, लेकिन वास्तव में यह हनुमान को बचाने की युक्ति है।
