स्त्रीबालवृद्धा निर्जग्मुस्तत्र तत्र कुतूहलात् ।
तं प्रदीपितलाङ्गूलं हनुमन्तं दिदृक्षवः ।

Strībālavṛddhā nirjagmustatra tatra kutūhalāt । Taṃ pradīpitalāṅgūlaṃ hanumantaṃ didṛkṣavaḥ । । ॥5-53-23॥
Translation
Driven by curiosity, women, children, and the elderly came out here and there to catch a glimpse of Hanuman with his tail set ablaze.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस जलती हुई पूँछ वाले हनुमान को देखने की इच्छा से स्त्रियाँ, बच्चे और बूढ़े कुतूहलवश यहाँ-वहाँ (अपने घरों से) बाहर निकल आए।
English Commentary
This verse (echoing the sentiment of verse 9) reinforces the mindset of Lanka's citizenry. The word 'kutūhalāt' (out of curiosity) indicates a thirst for spectacle. The burning of a living being was not a matter of pity for them, but entertainment. This underscores the desensitization inherent in the Rakshasa culture. However, this gathering crowds also played into Hanuman's hands. The larger the audience, the greater the chaos, and the more effective his subsequent display of power would be. By drawing everyone out, the Rakshasas unwittingly provided Hanuman with the perfect stage to demonstrate that he was not a victim, but a victor.

यह श्लोक (जो श्लोक 9 जैसा ही भाव रखता है) पुनः लंका के नागरिकों की मानसिकता पर प्रकाश डालता है। 'कुतूहलात्' (कुतूहल/जिज्ञासा वश) शब्द दर्शाता है कि वे मनोरंजन के प्यासे थे। एक जीवित प्राणी को जलाया जा रहा है, यह उनके लिए दया का नहीं, बल्कि तमाशे का विषय था। यह राक्षसी संस्कृति की संवेदनहीनता को उजागर करता है। साथ ही, यह हनुमान जी की योजना के लिए भी आवश्यक था। जितनी अधिक भीड़ जमा हुई, अव्यवस्था उतनी ही बढ़ी, और हनुमान जी को अपनी शक्ति प्रदर्शन और भय उत्पन्न करने के लिए उतना ही बड़ा मंच प्राप्त हुआ।
