वीक्षमाणस्ततो लङ्कां कपिः कृतमनोरथः ।
वर्धमानसमुत्साहः कार्यशेषमचिन्तयत् ।
।
॥५-५४-१॥
Vīkṣamāṇastato laṅkāṃ kapiḥ kṛtamanorathaḥ । Vardhamānasamutsāhaḥ kāryaśeṣamacintayat । । ॥5-54-1॥
Translation
Then, gazing at Lanka, the monkey (Hanuman), having fulfilled his desire (of finding Sita and testing his strength), and with increasing enthusiasm, reflected upon the remainder of his task.

तदनन्तर, अपना मनोरथ (सीता जी का पता लगाना और राक्षसों को मारना) सिद्ध होने पर, कपिवर हनुमान लंका को देखते हुए, बढ़ते हुए उत्साह के साथ शेष कार्य के विषय में विचार करने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse marks the transition from combat to strategic destruction. The term kṛtamanorathaḥ implies that Hanuman has achieved his primary objectives—locating Sita and assessing the enemy's strength. However, instead of resting on these laurels, his energy only increases (vardhamānasamutsāhaḥ). The verse portrays Hanuman as a thoughtful strategist (acintayat); he is analytically contemplating the kāryaśeṣam (remaining work). It highlights that the burning of Lanka was not an accidental act of rage, but a calculated move to complete the mission of demoralizing the enemy.

यह श्लोक लंका दहन के संकल्प का प्रारंभ है। 'कृतमनोरथः' शब्द दर्शाता है कि हनुमान जी ने सीता जी की खोज और अपनी शक्ति परीक्षण का मुख्य उद्देश्य पूरा कर लिया है। लेकिन एक सच्चे कर्मयोगी की भांति, वे सफलता पर विश्राम नहीं करते। 'वर्धमानसमुत्साहः' (बढ़ता हुआ उत्साह) उनकी मानसिक दृढ़ता को दिखाता है। वे भावावेश में नहीं, बल्कि विचारपूर्वक ('अचिन्तयत्') अगले कदम की योजना बना रहे हैं। वे सोच रहे हैं कि शत्रु को और अधिक पीड़ा देने के लिए अब और क्या करना शेष है।
