किं नु खल्ववशिष्टं मे कर्तव्यमिह साम्प्रतम् ।
यदेषां रक्षसां भूयः सन्तापजननं भवेत् ।

॥५-५४-२॥
Kiṃ nu khalvavaśiṣṭaṃ me kartavyamih sāṃpratam । Yadeṣāṃ rakṣasāṃ bhūyaḥ santāpajananaṃ bhavet । । ॥5-54-2॥
Translation
(Hanuman thought) "What indeed remains for me to do here now, that would cause further torment to these Rakshasas?"

(हनुमान जी ने सोचा) अब यहाँ मेरे लिए वास्तव में कौन सा कार्य शेष है, जिससे इन राक्षसों को और अधिक सन्ताप (पीड़ा) उत्पन्न हो?
English Commentary
This verse reveals the psychological aspect of Hanuman's warfare. He is asking himself a tactical question: how to maximize the impact of his visit. The phrase santāpajananaṃ (generating heat/torment/grief) indicates his intent to inflict lasting damage that goes beyond the immediate battlefield losses. He aims to leave a scar on the collective psyche of the Rakshasas. It emphasizes that for a formidable enemy like Ravana, simply killing soldiers is insufficient; the infrastructure and the sense of security must also be dismantled.

यहाँ हनुमान जी की रणनीतिक सोच स्पष्ट होती है। उनका उद्देश्य केवल युद्ध जीतना नहीं, बल्कि शत्रु के मनोबल को तोड़ना है। वे 'सन्तापजननं' (दुःख या पीड़ा उत्पन्न करने वाला) कार्य करना चाहते हैं। रावण के अहंकार को चोट पहुँचाने के लिए शारीरिक वध के अलावा मानसिक और भौतिक आघात भी आवश्यक है। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि युद्ध में शत्रु को पूरी तरह से हतोत्साहित करना भी एक योद्धा का कर्तव्य होता है, ताकि भविष्य में वे आक्रमण का साहस न कर सकें।
