तानि काञ्चनजालानि मुक्तामणिमयानि च ।
भवनान्यवशीर्यन्त रत्नवन्ति महान्ति च ।

Tāni kāñcanajālāni muktāmaṇimayāni ca । Bhavanānyavaśīryanta ratnavanti mahānti ca । । ॥5-54-23॥
Translation
Those great mansions, filled with gems, featuring golden lattices and encrusted with pearls and jewels, began to crumble and fall.

(आग के कारण) वे सोने की जालियों वाले, मोतियों और मणियों से युक्त, रत्नों से भरे हुए विशाल भवन टूट-टूटकर गिरने लगे।
English Commentary
The verse vividly depicts the physical collapse of the city. The architectural marvels—golden lattices (kāñcanajālāni) and pearl-encrusted walls—are shattering (avaśīryanta) under the heat. The juxtaposition of luxury (gold, pearls, gems) with destruction serves a moral purpose: it illustrates the fragility of material wealth accumulated through Adharma. The melting gold and crumbling gems symbolize the liquidation of Ravana’s empire, turning his prized possessions into ruins.

यह दृश्य लंका के वैभव के अंत का है। 'काञ्चनजालानि' (सोने की जालियाँ) और 'मुक्तामणि' (मोती-माणिक्य) पिघल रहे हैं और भवन 'अवशीर्यन्त' (बिखर कर गिर रहे हैं)। यह भौतिकवाद (materialism) की नश्वरता का प्रतीक है। जिस सोने और रत्नों पर लंका को गर्व था, वे अग्नि के सामने टिक न सके। यह श्लोक एक वैराग्य भाव भी उत्पन्न करता है—चाहे महल कितना भी विशाल और कीमती क्यों न हो, विनाश के क्षण में वह केवल मलबा है।
