पतन्त्यो रेजिरे ऽभ्रेभ्यः सौदामिन्य इवाम्बरात् ।

॥५-५४-२७॥
Patantyo rejire 'bhrebhyaḥ saudāminya ivāmbarāt । । ॥5-54-27॥
Translation
Falling down, they shone like flashes of lightning falling from the clouds in the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(महलों से) गिरती हुई वे स्त्रियाँ आकाश में बादलों से गिरती हुई बिजली (सौदामिनी) के समान सुशोभित हुईं।
English Commentary
Valmiki employs a striking visual simile here. The falling women are compared to saudāminī (lightning) streaking from clouds. This implies they were adorned with gold and jewelry, or perhaps had fair complexions, contrasting against the dark smoke (abhrebhyaḥ - clouds of smoke). It transforms a horrific scene of jumping to death into an image of stark, tragic beauty, emphasizing the fall of grace and opulence into destruction.

यहाँ कवि ने एक भयानक दृश्य में भी सौंदर्य की खोज की है (वीभत्स और अद्भुत रस का मिश्रण)। राक्षसी स्त्रियाँ संभवतः गौरवर्ण की या आभूषणों से लदी हैं, इसलिए काली धुएँ वाली पृष्ठभूमि और रात के अंधेरे में गिरते समय वे 'सौदामिनी' (बिजली) जैसी चमक रही हैं। यह उपमा उनकी सुंदरता को दर्शाती है, लेकिन साथ ही उनकी क्षणभंगुरता को भी—जैसे बिजली पल भर चमक कर लुप्त हो जाती है, वैसे ही उनका जीवन संकट में है।
