तत्राम्बरादग्निरतिप्रवृद्धो रूक्षप्रभः किंशुकपुष्पचूडः ।
निर्वाणधूमाकुलराजयश्च नीलोत्पलाभाः प्रचकाशिरे ऽभ्राः ।
।
॥५-५४-३५॥
Tatrāmbarādagniratipravṛddho rūkṣaprabhaḥ kiṃśukapuṣpacūḍaḥ । Nirvāṇadhūmākularājayashca nīlotpalābhāḥ pracakāśire 'bhrāḥ । ॥5-54-35॥
Translation
There, the excessively grown fire rose into the sky, its crests looking like Kinshuka flowers, casting a harsh glow. The clouds, filled with dense lines of smoke (from extinguished parts), appeared like blue lotuses.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहाँ आकाश में अत्यंत बढ़ी हुई अग्नि, जो किंशुक के फूलों जैसी चोटियों वाली और रूखी प्रभा वाली थी, (चमक रही थी)। और (बुझते हुए स्थानों से उठते) धुएँ की घनी रेखा वाले बादल नीलकमल के समान आभा वाले दिखाई दे रहे थे।
English Commentary
The verse paints a vivid picture of the sky above Lanka. The fire is described as rūkṣaprabhaḥ (harshly radiant) with crests like red Kinshuka flowers. In contrast, the smoke clouds (abhrāḥ) are compared to nīlotpala (blue lotuses). The juxtaposition of the fierce, angry red of the fire and the cool, dark blue of the smoke creates a dramatic visual tapestry in the sky, turning the atmosphere of war into a canvas of elemental fury.

यहाँ अग्नि और धुएँ का विरोधाभास (Contrast) चित्रित है। अग्नि 'किंशुक' (लाल) रंग की है और उसकी प्रभा 'रूक्ष' (भीषण/चिलचिलाती) है। दूसरी ओर, जहाँ आग बुझ रही है या धुआं उठ रहा है, वह 'नीलोत्पल' (नीले कमल) जैसा दिख रहा है। लाल अग्नि और नीला/काला धुआं आकाश में एक अद्भुत चित्र बना रहे हैं। वाल्मीकि जी विनाश में भी प्रकृति के रंगों का संयोजन देख रहे हैं।
