इत्येवमूचुर्बहवो विशिष्टा रक्षोगणास्तत्र समेत्य सर्वे ।
सप्राणिसङ्घां सगृहां सवृक्षां दग्धां पुरीं तां सहसा समीक्ष्य ।

Ityevamūcurbahavo viśiṣṭā rakṣogaṇāstatra sametya sarve । Saprāṇisaṅghāṃ sagṛhāṃ savṛkṣāṃ dagdhāṃ purīṃ tāṃ sahasā samīkṣya । । ॥5-54-39॥
Translation
Seeing that city suddenly burnt along with its multitudes of living beings, houses, and trees, many distinguished Rakshasas gathered there and spoke thus.

प्राणियों के समूहों, घरों और वृक्षों सहित उस पुरी (लंका) को अचानक जली हुई देखकर, वहाँ एकत्र हुए बहुत से विशिष्ट राक्षस इस प्रकार कहने लगे।
English Commentary
The use of the word vishishtah (distinguished/elite) indicates that this analysis wasn't just the rambling of common panic, but the conclusion of the high-ranking and intelligent Rakshasas. Seeing the comprehensive destruction—homes, living beings, and nature (trees) all incinerated—the elite of Lanka gathered to discuss the calamity. The suddenness (sahasa) and completeness of the burning forced them to look for supernatural explanations beyond mere enemy action.

यहाँ 'विशिष्टाः' (विशिष्ट) शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि यह केवल सामान्य जनता का विलाप नहीं था, बल्कि लंका के बुद्धिमान और उच्च-पदस्थ राक्षस भी भयभीत होकर ऐसा सोच रहे थे। पूरी लंका—जिसमें न केवल भवन, बल्कि वृक्ष और जीव-जंतु भी थे—भस्म हो चुकी थी। इस विनाश की व्यापकता ने लंका के कुलीन वर्ग को भी चिंतन करने और दैवीय हस्तक्षेप की आशंका करने पर विवश कर दिया।
