स सम्भ्रमत्रस्तविषण्णराक्षसां समुज्ज्वलज्ज्वालहुताशनाङ्किताम् ।
ददर्श लङ्कां हनुमान् महामनाः स्वयम्भुकोपोपहतामिवावनिम् ।

Sa sambhramatrastaviṣaṇṇarākṣasāṃ samujjvalajjvālahutāśanāṅkitām । Dadarśa laṅkāṃ hanumān mahāmanāḥ svayambhukopopahatāmivāvanim । । ॥5-54-43॥
Translation
The high-minded Hanuman looked at Lanka, which contained bewildered, frightened, and dejected Rakshasas, and was marked by blazing flames of fire; it looked like the earth destroyed by the wrath of the Self-born (Brahma).
हिंदी अनुवाद
महामनस्वी हनुमान जी ने उस लंका को देखा, जिसके राक्षस घबराहट, भय और विषाद में डूबे थे और जो प्रज्वलित अग्नि की ज्वालाओं से चिह्नित थी। वह लंका (प्रलयकाल में) ब्रह्मा जी के कोप से नष्ट हुई पृथ्वी के समान दिखाई दे रही थी।
English Commentary
Hanuman surveys his handiwork with the detachment of a Mahamana (great-souled one). The scene represents total chaos—fear, sorrow, and fire. The metaphor used here equates the burning city to the earth being destroyed by the wrath of Brahma at the time of cosmic dissolution (Pralaya). This comparison elevates the event from a mere city fire to a cataclysmic event of biblical proportions, signaling the end of an era for the Rakshasas.

हनुमान जी अब एक साक्षी भाव से अपने कर्म के परिणाम को देख रहे हैं। उन्हें 'महामना' (महान मन वाले) कहा गया है, क्योंकि वे हिंसा के प्रेमी नहीं हैं, लेकिन धर्म की स्थापना के लिए यह विनाश आवश्यक था। लंका की तुलना 'स्वयम्भुकोपोपहताम' (ब्रह्मा के कोप से नष्ट पृथ्वी) से करके वाल्मीकि जी ने विनाश के विराट पैमाने को दर्शाया है—जैसे प्रलय के समय सब कुछ समाप्त हो जाता है, वैसी ही स्थिति लंका की थी।
