Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भङ्क्त्वा वनं महातेजा हत्वा रक्षांसि संयुगे ।
दग्ध्वा लङ्कापुरीं रम्यां रराज स महाकपिः ।

॥५-५४-४८॥
Bhaṅktvā vanaṃ mahātejā hatvā rakṣāṃsi saṃyuge । Dagdhvā laṅkāpurīṃ ramyāṃ rarāja sa mahākapiḥ । । ॥5-54-48॥
Translation
Having destroyed the forest, killed the Rakshasas in battle, and burnt the beautiful city of Lanka, that great monkey (Hanuman) of great luster shone resplendently.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महातेजस्वी उस महाकपि (हनुमान) ने (अशोक) वन को उजाड़कर, युद्ध में राक्षसों का वध करके और उस रमणीय लंकापुरी को जलाकर बड़ी शोभा प्राप्त की।
English Commentary
This verse acts as a summary of Hanuman's exploits in Lanka. He is described as Mahateja (one of great luster). Destroying the beautiful (ramyam) city of Lanka did not diminish his glory; rather, he shone (raraja) like a victor. It signifies that the destruction of evil, even if it involves burning a golden city, adds to the splendor of a righteous warrior.

यह श्लोक हनुमान जी के पराक्रम का उपसंहार है। यहाँ उन्हें 'महातेजा' कहा गया है, क्योंकि उनके कार्यों ने उनके तेज को और बढ़ा दिया था। लंका जैसी 'रम्यां' (सुंदर) नगरी को भस्म करके वे किसी अपराधी की भांति नहीं, अपितु एक विजयी वीर की भांति 'रराज' (सुशोभित हुए)। यह विनाश सृजन के लिए था, धर्म की स्थापना के लिए था, इसलिए यह कृत्य उनकी शोभा का कारण बना।
