तं दृष्ट्वा वानरश्रेष्ठं हनुमन्तं महाकपिम् ।
कालाग्निरिति सञ्चिन्त्य सर्वभूतानि तत्रसुः ।
।
॥५-५४-५०॥
Taṃ dṛṣṭvā vānaraśreṣṭhaṃ hanumantaṃ mahākapim । Kālāgniriti sañcintya sarvabhūtāni tatrasuḥ । । ॥5-54-50॥
Translation
Seeing that best of monkeys, the great monkey Hanuman, and thinking of him as the "Fire of Time" (the fire that destroys the world at the end of an age), all living beings were terrified.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरश्रेष्ठ महाकपि हनुमान को देखकर, उन्हें 'कालाग्नि' (प्रलयंकारी अग्नि) मानकर समस्त प्राणी भयभीत हो गए।
English Commentary
Hanuman is compared here to Kalagni, the apocalyptic fire that consumes the universe at the time of dissolution. To the inhabitants of Lanka, he appeared not as a biological entity but as an elemental force of destruction. This metaphor highlights the sheer scale of the devastation and the overwhelming terror he inspired in all living beings (sarvabhutani).

यहाँ हनुमान जी की तुलना 'कालाग्नि' से की गई है। कालाग्नि वह अग्नि है जो सृष्टि के अंत में सब कुछ भस्म कर देती है। लंका के निवासी और वहां उपस्थित अन्य प्राणी हनुमान जी के रौद्र रूप को देखकर यह भेद नहीं कर पाए कि यह वानर है या साक्षात् मृत्यु। यह भय उनके द्वारा किए गए पूर्ण विनाश का परिणाम था।
