ततः प्रदीप्तलाङ्गूलः सविद्युदिव तोयदः ।
भवनाग्रेषु लङ्काया विचचार महाकपिः ।

Tataḥ pradīptalāṅgūlaḥ savidyudiva toyadaḥ । Bhavanāgreṣu laṅkāyā vicacāra mahākapiḥ । । ॥5-54-6॥
Translation
Then, with his tail set ablaze, the great monkey roamed over the tops of the mansions in Lanka, looking like a rain cloud accompanied by lightning.

तदनन्तर, प्रज्वलित पूँछ वाले वे महाकपि, बिजली सहित बादल के समान, लंका के भवनों के शिखरों पर विचरने लगे।
English Commentary
Valmiki employs a vivid simile here, comparing Hanuman to a toyadaḥ (rain cloud) and his burning tail to vidyut (lightning). The contrast between his dark form and the bright fire creates a striking visual. As he moves across the bhavanāgreṣu (rooftops), the imagery suggests impending doom—just as a storm cloud heralds a downpour, Hanuman heralds a rain of fire. The comparison emphasizes his grandeur and the elemental power he wields as he moves swiftly above the city.

वाल्मीकि जी पुनः एक सुंदर उपमा का प्रयोग करते हैं। हनुमान जी का विशाल और श्यामवर्ण शरीर 'तोयदः' (मेघ) के समान है, और उनकी जलती हुई पूँछ 'विद्युत' (बिजली) के समान है। वह 'भवनाग्रेषु' (भवनों की छतों पर) घूम रहे हैं। यह दृश्य भयानक होते हुए भी अत्यंत भव्य है। जिस प्रकार बिजली वाला बादल वर्षा करता है, हनुमान जी यहाँ अग्नि की वर्षा करने वाले हैं। महाकपि का यह रूप लंकावासियों के लिए प्रलयंकारी मेघ जैसा है।
