यदि तद्विहतं कार्यं मम प्रज्ञाविपर्ययात् ।
इहैव प्राणसंन्यासो ममापि ह्यद्य रोचते ।

ihaiva prāṇasannyāso mamāpi hyadya rocate ॥5-55-13॥
Translation
If that task has been ruined due to the perversion of my intellect, then laying down my life right here appeals to me today.

यदि मेरी बुद्धि के उलटफेर (विपर्यय) से वह कार्य बिगड़ गया है, तो आज मुझे भी यहीं प्राणों का त्याग कर देना ही अच्छा लगता है।
English Commentary
Guilt transforms into suicidal ideation. Hanuman attributes the potential disaster to 'prajñāviparyayāt'—a perversion or inversion of his intellect/wisdom. For a devoted servant, failing the master's mission is a fate worse than death. The use of the word 'rocate' (appeals to me/pleases me) regarding suicide is poignant; it suggests that death feels like a relief compared to the agony of facing Rama with the news of failure. This highlights the ethos of the time, where honor and duty were inextricably linked to one's right to exist. He feels he has forfeited his life by failing his purpose.

अपराधबोध (Guilt) अब आत्म-विनाश की इच्छा में परिवर्तित हो रहा है। हनुमान जी अपनी त्रुटि को 'प्रज्ञाविपर्यय' (बुद्धि का भ्रष्ट होना या उल्टा होना) मानते हैं। एक सेवक के लिए स्वामी का कार्य बिगड़ जाना मृत्यु से भी बदतर है। 'रोचते' (रुचिकर लगना/अच्छा लगना) शब्द यहाँ अत्यंत मार्मिक है - उन्हें जीने की अपेक्षा मरना अधिक सुखद लग रहा है क्योंकि वे राम के सामने असफल होकर जाने की लज्जा सहन नहीं कर सकते। यह श्लोक रामायण में 'शरणागति' और 'स्वामिभक्ति' के उस स्तर को दिखाता है जहाँ भक्त का अस्तित्व केवल स्वामी के कार्य के लिए है।
