किमग्नौ निपताम्यद्य अहोस्विद्वडवामुखे ।
शरीरमाहो सत्त्वानां दद्मि सागरवासिनाम् ।

kimagnau nipatāmyadya ahosvidvaḍavāmukhe |
śarīramāho sattvānāṃ dadmi sāgaravāsinām ॥5-55-14॥
Translation
Shall I fall into the fire today? Or into the submarine fire? Or shall I offer my body to the creatures dwelling in the ocean?
हिंदी अनुवाद
क्या मैं आज ही आग में कूद पडूँ? या बड़वानल (समुद्र की आग) में समा जाऊँ? अथवा अपना शरीर सागर में रहने वाले जीवों को दे दूँ?
English Commentary
Hanuman contemplates specific modes of suicide, indicating the intensity of his anguish. He considers jumping into the very fire he lit, entering the submarine fire (vadavamukha), or feeding himself to sea monsters. This listing of options reflects a frantic mind seeking the most appropriate punishment for his perceived failure. It is a striking moment of vulnerability for the great hero; the one who is invincible to external enemies is brought to his knees by his own conscience and the fear that he has harmed the innocent Sita through his negligence.

हनुमान जी यहाँ मृत्यु के विभिन्न प्रकारों पर विचार कर रहे हैं। यह उनकी मानसिक अस्थिरता और वेदना की पराकाष्ठा है। वे अग्नि में जलकर प्रायश्चित करना चाहते हैं (जैसे उन्होंने लंका जलाई), या समुद्र में कूदकर जल-जंतुओं का आहार बनना चाहते हैं। यह 'विकल्प-द्वंद्व' (Dilemma) उनकी व्याकुलता को दर्शाता है। एक महावीर, जो देवताओं के लिए भी अजेय है, वह अपने ही विवेक की भूल के कारण इतना हताश हो गया है कि उसे अपने शरीर का अस्तित्व निरर्थक लग रहा है।
