धिगस्तु राजसं भावमनीशमनवस्थितम् ।
ईश्वरेणापि यद्रागान्मया सीता न रक्षिता ।

dhigastu rājasaṃ bhāvamaniśamanavasthitam |
īśvareṇāpi yadrāgānmayā sītā na rakṣitā ॥5-55-17॥
Translation
Fie upon the Rajasic nature (passion), which is uncontrollable and unstable; due to which, though capable, I did not protect Sita because of passion/rage.

उस राजसी भाव (रजोगुण/आवेश) को धिक्कार है जो अनियंत्रित और अस्थिर है; जिसके वशीभूत होकर समर्थ (ईश्वर) होते हुए भी मैंने सीता की रक्षा नहीं की।
English Commentary
Hanuman engages in a philosophical critique of the Gunas (modes of nature). He condemns the 'Rajasic' nature—associated with passion, activity, and rage—which is described as anīśam (uncontrollable) and anavasthitam (unstable). He asserts that although he was 'īśvara' (capable/master of the situation) and had the power to burn Lanka while simultaneously saving Sita, the influence of Rajas (specifically the rage) blinded him. This underscores a key Dharmic principle: capability alone is insufficient; power must be guided by Sattva (purity/balance) and restraint, or else it leads to unintended destruction.

यहाँ हनुमान जी सांख्य दर्शन के 'गुणों' की चर्चा कर रहे हैं। वे अपने क्रोध को 'राजस भाव' (रजोगुण) कहते हैं। सत्वगुण प्रकाश और ज्ञान का प्रतीक है, जबकि रजोगुण आवेश और क्रिया का। हनुमान जी कहते हैं कि वे 'ईश्वर' (समर्थ/शक्तिशाली) थे, अर्थात् वे लंका भी जला सकते थे और सीता को भी बचा सकते थे, परन्तु रजोगुण के प्रभाव ने उनकी बुद्धि हर ली। यह श्लोक शिक्षा देता है कि केवल शक्ति (Capability) होना पर्याप्त नहीं है; शक्ति के साथ सात्विक विवेक और संयम होना आवश्यक है, अन्यथा शक्ति विनाशकारी हो सकती है।
