Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
निःश्वसन्तमिवामर्षाद्घोरैराशीविषोत्तमैः ।
नीहारकृतगम्भीरैर्ध्यायन्तमिव गह्वरैः ।

Niḥśvasantamivāmarṣādghorairāśīviṣottamaiḥ । Nīhārakṛtagambhīrairdhyāyantamiva gahvaraiḥ । 。 ॥5-56-15॥
Translation
With its terrible and mighty venomous snakes, the mountain seemed to be hissing in anger; and with its deep caves filled with mist, it appeared to be deep in meditation.
हिंदी अनुवाद
भयंकर और श्रेष्ठ विषधर साँपों के कारण वह पर्वत ऐसा लग रहा था मानो क्रोध में फुफकार (लंबी साँस) भर रहा हो। और कोहरे (धुंध) से भरी हुई गहरी गुफाओं के कारण ऐसा लगता था मानो वह गहरे ध्यान में मग्न हो।
English Commentary
This verse juxtaposes two contrasting moods: rage and tranquility. The hissing of the terrifying serpents inhabiting the slopes is metaphorically described as the mountain exhaling heavily or hissing in Amarsha (anger/intolerance). In stark contrast, the deep caves filled with mist and fog create an aura of stillness and mystery. This misty depth is likened to a sage in deep meditation (Dhyana). The mountain thus embodies a complex personality, capable of fierce aggression on the surface while maintaining a core of profound, meditative silence.

इस श्लोक में पर्वत के दो विपरीत स्वभावों का वर्णन है—क्रोध और शांति। पर्वत पर रहने वाले भयंकर साँपों की फुफकार को पर्वत की 'क्रोधपूर्ण निःश्वास' (heavy breathing due to anger) कहा गया है। दूसरी ओर, पर्वत की कंदराएँ (गुफाएँ) जो कोहरे (नीहार) से ढकी हुई हैं, वे ऐसी लगती हैं जैसे कोई योगी अपनी आँखों को बंद करके, दुनिया से कटकर गहरे 'ध्यान' में बैठा हो। यह विरोधाभास (Contrast) अद्भुत है—बाहर से विषैला और क्रोधी, पर भीतर (गुफाओं में) शांत और समाधिस्थ।
