Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तमारुह्य शैलेन्द्रं व्यवर्धत महाकपिः ।
दक्षिणादुत्तरं पारं प्रार्थयन् लवणाम्भसः ।
।

Sa tamāruhya śailendraṃ vyavardhata mahākapiḥ । Dakṣiṇāduttaraṃ pāraṃ prārthayan lavaṇāmbhasaḥ । । ॥5-56-23॥
Translation
Ascending that lord of mountains, the great monkey grew in size, wishing to cross from the southern to the northern shore of the salty ocean.
हिंदी अनुवाद
खारे पानी के समुद्र के दक्षिणी तट से उत्तरी तट पर जाने की इच्छा करते हुए, उस पर्वतराज पर चढ़कर वे महाकपि (हनुमान) आकार में बढ़ने लगे।
English Commentary
Hanuman prepares for the leap by expanding his physical form (Vyavardhata). In the Ramayana, size-shifting is a recurring power (Siddhi) used by Hanuman. Here, the expansion serves a functional purpose—to gain the momentum and stride needed to cross the vast ocean. The directional focus 'South to North' sets the trajectory of his return journey, away from the enemy's land back towards Rama.

'महाकपि' शब्द यहाँ सार्थक है क्योंकि समुद्र लांघने के लिए उन्होंने अपना विराट रूप धारण किया। 'व्यवर्धत' का अर्थ है विशेष रूप से बढ़ना। लंका (दक्षिण) से वापस राम के पास (उत्तर) जाने की यह यात्रा केवल दिशा परिवर्तन नहीं, बल्कि अंधकार से प्रकाश की ओर जाने का प्रतीक है। हनुमान जी का शरीर उनके संकल्प के साथ-साथ विशाल होता जा रहा है।
