Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स लिलङ्घयिषुर्भीमं सलीलं लवणार्णवम् ।
कल्लोलास्फालवेलान्तमुत्पपात नभो हरिः ।
।
॥५-५६-३४॥
Sa lilaṅghayiṣurbhīmaṃ salīlaṃ lavaṇārṇavam । Kallolāsphālavelāntamutpapāta nabho hariḥ । । ॥5-56-34॥
Translation
Desiring to cross the terrible salty ocean, whose shores were being battered by large waves, effortlessly (playfully), the monkey (Hari) leaped into the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लहरों की थपेड़ों से युक्त तट वाले उस भयानक खारे समुद्र को खेल-खेल में (लीलापूर्वक) लांघने की इच्छा से, वानर (हरि) हनुमान आकाश में उछल पड़े।
English Commentary
This verse captures the contrast between the formidable obstacle and the hero's ease. The ocean is described as terrifying (Bhimam), with waves violently crashing against the shores. Yet, Hanuman’s attitude is one of Salilam—playfulness or ease. This marks the transition from the physical exertion of the launch (crushing the mountain) to the aerodynamic grace of the flight. It signifies that when purpose (devotion to Rama) is strong, even the most 'terrible' obstacles become like child's play.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ हनुमान जी के आत्मविश्वास का अद्भुत चित्रण है। जिस समुद्र को 'भीम' (भयानक) कहा गया है और जिसकी लहरें तटों को तोड़ रही हैं, उसे पार करना हनुमान जी के लिए 'सलीलम्' (एक खेल) मात्र है। पिछले श्लोकों में हमने देखा कि उन्होंने पहाड़ को पाताल में धंसा दिया, जो उनके बल का प्रतीक था। अब वे आकाश में उड़ रहे हैं, जो उनकी 'सिद्धि' और 'कौशल' का प्रतीक है। 'हरि' शब्द का अर्थ वानर भी है और विष्णु (दुख हरने वाला) भी; यहाँ वे वानरों के दुख हरने के लिए आकाश में उड़ चले हैं।
