यद्यन्यथा भवेदेतद्द्वौ मासौ जीवितं मम ।
न मां द्रक्ष्यति काकुत्स्थो म्रिये सा ऽहमनाथवत् ।
।
॥५-५८-१०६॥
Yadyanyathā bhavedetaddvau māsau jīvitaṃ mama । Na māṃ drakṣyati Kākutstho mriye sā 'hamanāthavat । । ॥5-58-106॥
Translation
If this happens otherwise (is delayed), my life remains for only two months. After that, Rama (descendant of Kakutstha) will not see me, and I shall die like an orphan.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि इसमें कुछ भी अन्यथा (विलंब) हुआ, तो मेरा जीवन केवल दो मास शेष है। उसके बाद ककुत्स्थकुलभूषण श्रीराम मुझे नहीं देख पाएंगे और मैं अनाथ की भांति मर जाऊंगी।

यह श्लोक सीता जी की वेदना और रावण द्वारा दी गई समय-सीमा (अवधि) को दर्शाता है। 'अनाथवत्' शब्द अत्यंत मार्मिक है; जिसका अर्थ है जिसका कोई रक्षक न हो। त्रिलोकीनाथ श्री राम की पत्नी होते हुए भी अनाथ की तरह प्राण त्यागने की कल्पना ही सीता जी के दुःख की पराकाष्ठा है। यह हनुमान जी के लिए एक 'डेडलाइन' (समय-सीमा) भी तय करता है कि उन्हें और राम जी को दो महीने के भीतर ही लंका विजय करनी होगी।
