Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राजन् वनमिदं दुर्गं तव भग्नं दुरात्मना ।
वानरेण ह्यविज्ञाय तव वीर्यं महाबल ।
।
॥५-५८-१११॥
Rājan vanamidaṃ durgaṃ tava bhagnaṃ durātmanā । Vānareṇa hyavijñāya tava vīryaṃ mahābala । । ॥5-58-111॥
Translation
(They said) O mighty King! Ignoring your prowess, a wicked-minded monkey has destroyed this impassable forest of yours.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उन्होंने कहा) हे महाबली राजन! आपकी शक्ति (वीर्य) को न जानते हुए, एक दुष्ट बुद्धि वाले वानर ने आपके इस दुर्गम वन को नष्ट कर दिया है।
English Commentary
The sentries used language specifically designed to provoke Ravana’s ego. By stating that the monkey "ignored your prowess," they struck at the core of Ravana's pride. Calling the forest durgam (impassable/difficult to access) emphasizes the magnitude of the breach. This report was framed not just as property damage, but as a direct personal insult to the King of Lanka.

राक्षसियों ने रावण के अहंकार को उकसाने वाली भाषा का प्रयोग किया। उन्होंने हनुमान को 'दुरात्मना' (दुष्ट आत्मा) कहा और यह भी जोड़ा कि उसने रावण के प्रताप की अनदेखी की है। रावण जैसे अभिमानी राजा के लिए यह सहन करना कठिन था कि कोई उसके भय से मुक्त हो। 'दुर्गं' शब्द का प्रयोग बताता है कि वह वन अत्यंत सुरक्षित था, जिसे तोडना असंभव माना जाता था।
